Weed 5 cnn
Airs Sunday, September 29 at 8PM ET/PT on CNN
More than six years ago, Dr. Sanjay Gupta set out to investigate the science behind medical marijuana. A year later WEED, the first documentary in the award-winning series aired on CNN with an accompanying op-ed penned by Gupta: “Why I Changed my Mind on Weed.” Now, his fifth documentary WEED 5: The CBD Craze, will premiere on Sunday, September 29 th at 8pm ET/PT, with Gupta returning to Colorado where he started his journey and introduced viewers for the first time to the word few could even pronounce – Cannabidiol (CBD).
CBD will soon be a $22-billion-dollar industry and can be found everywhere, in every formulation – from lotions to lattes to pet products to popcorn. Available throughout the U.S. in grocery stores, coffee shops and spas, Dr. Gupta sets out across the country and around the world searching for the truth behind the craze.
Though we know it doesn’t get you high, there isn’t much more we know about the CBD in our products; the research is slim, but success stories are not. Many lives have changed for the better, but we are now learning of lives changed for the worse. In WEED 5, Gupta investigates the CBD industry and finds what we once thought was harmless, could be dangerous because of an industry that is wholly unregulated.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta Reports: WEED 5: The CBD Craze will stream live for subscribers the day of its premiere via CNN.com/go and via CNNgo apps for Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, Samsung Smart TV and Android TV) and on the CNN mobile apps for iOS and Android. It will also be available the day after the broadcast premiere on demand via cable/satellite systems, CNNgo platform and CNN mobile apps.

- WEED 5 focuses on the CBD industry and the dangers of not being regulated.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta made a point to investigate exactly what he could find out about medical marijuana scientifically about six years ago. Within a year of starting this project, he brought to life the first documentary of a series called WEED, which aired on CNN at the time. It included an op-ped by Gupta titled “Why I Changed My Mind on Weed.” On September 29 th at 8:00pm EST/PST, the fifth installment – WEED 5: The CBD Craze – will premiere, following Gupta as he goes back to where he journeyed originally to Colorado.
Before long, CBD will become an industry worth $22 billion, and it can already be found anywhere, from dispensaries to the grocery store. Products like lotions, lattes, pet products, drinks, and more can be found anywhere CBD is allowed. Dr. Gupta, in this series, will now set out to shed more light on the truth behind this craze. Back when the famous doctor broke the original CBD story, it featured the likes of Charlotte’s Web among many others in 2014.
The public already knows that CBD cannot create the same “high” sensation that THC will, but there isn’t a lot more information that is known about the substance. Research is minimal right now, but there are many stores from consumers all over the country that show how this product has helped. In WEED 5, Gupta focuses on the CBD industry, and explores the dangers of the unregulated market.Dr Sanjay Gupta Introduces His Fifth Documentary, “Weed 5: The CBD Craze”: CNN Special Report September 24, 2019 The WEED series explores different evidence found in the cannabis sector ]]>
