Super Green Hemp Protein Smoothie
Going back to basics and sharing one of my favourite green smoothie recipes. While my smoothies at home are usually mostly made up of vegetables I know that’s not everyone’s cup of tea, so this recipe is a great way to get started if you’re still getting used to the idea of drinking your greens.
I love having fruits in my smoothies, but I also love using them as a way to load up on vegetables, protein and healthy fats too. This Super Green Smoothie recipe has been a favourite at my corporate workshops and is also packed with antioxidants from the spirulina and plant-based protein from the hemp—it makes a great post workout smoothie! If you’d like to try the superfoods I used in this recipe, you can get them from Organicule Superfoods and get 10% off with my code SSAYANG10.
Green smoothies can seem daunting, but trust me they’re not that bad. At one of the workshops I did, I made this smoothie and although everyone was a little hesitant at first they were all asking for more by the end. This smoothie is loaded with greens from the cucumber (for that extra hydration), baby spinach, mint and spirulina, but the banana and mango help keep things a little sweet—not to mention high in vitamin C, which we all know is great for boosting immunity and promoting collagen production. I also love a little kick of ginger for its powerful anti-inflammatory and health boosting properties.
Let’s talk about the superfoods
Spirulina: a blue-green microalgae which is one of the most nutrient dense foods in the world. Spirulina helps boost stamina and is a good source of plant-based protein. It’s also high in iron, copper, and B vitamins. It goes well with the fruits as the vitamin C helps with the absorption of iron.
Hemp hearts: hemp hearts are the seeds of the hemp plant. Hemp is considered a complete plant-based protein containing all 9 essential amino acids. Hemp hearts are also rich in healthy omega 3 and 6 fats and various other minerals.
Hemp protein: also derived from the hemp plant, it shares all the same benefits as hemp hearts. Hemp protein is one of my favourite protein powders because it’s usually less refined and is usually much easier to digest.Super Green Hemp Protein Smoothie Going back to basics and sharing one of my favourite green smoothie recipes.
