Near to me CBD is holding a soft opening this week, according to John Parker its Managing Partner.

The store is selling CBD vapes, lotions, salves, skincare items and pet products. They also feature a line of products from Relyf, the Birmingham -based premium CBD company and MedTerra whose products are being sold at participating CVS Pharmacy stores in seven states outside of Alabama.

Law Clarified

For folks unfamiliar with CBD or Cannabidiol, the product claims to have many benefits including relieving pain (See Bham Now story on UAB’s research). Derived from the cannabis plant, CBD is not the same as marijuana and the products do not contain the psychoactive component THC.

Last year, the U.S. Congress clarified the law concerning the sale of CBD products nationwide through amendments in the 2018 Farm Bill that passed in December and was signed into law by President Trump.

Soon after the law passed, Alabama Attorney General Marshall issued a memo confirming the legality of CBD stores.

“Our motivation is to help people in our community and educate people about industrial hemp and how it benefits the human body and your pets,” said Parker. “We have high quality third party tested CBD products that are affordable.”

Alternative to Prescriptions

Jessica Hunter, Near to Me CBD’s Creative Director added:

“We want to to bring forth natural products. In this day in age, with the opiod crisis being such an issue – CBD provides a healthier alternative to prescription drugs.”

She also stressed that they want to help people with their pain management and wellness needs.

“CBD is a natural option,” said Hunter.

A new independent store selling Californian CBD oil has opened in Birmingham.

Green Machine has an array of products using premium cannabidiol (CBD), an element found in hemp.

The bright, clean and airy shop, with space for customers to relax, socialise and try products, has opened on 385 Hagley Road West in Quinton. Its products are based on California-style hemp dispensaries.

A wide array of products at the shop include coffees and teas, skincare, bath salts, oils and tinctures, nebulisers, chocolates and sweets.

Customers can stop by for coffee sweetened with a CBD oil and a honey recipe.

One of the first customers at Birmingham’s first Green Machine store was a lady in her 80s who enjoyed a coffee.

Green Machine – which also has shops in London, Worthing and Portsmouth – pledges to source high-quality CBD products that are free from agricultural chemicals.

Green Machine advise all their products are legal as they predominantly use the CBD element of hemp as opposed to tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) – this is the psychoactive element of the plant that creates the high associated with illegal drug use.

Green Machine say that traces of THC are found in products, but this is typically less than 0.2%, which follows Home Office rulings – these state that CBD products can contain a maximum of 0.2% THC, and that this trace must not be easily separated from the product.

Home Office advice also says it is difficult to ascertain true purity of CBD Oil and advises caution where products may contain other cannabinoids.

A spokesman for Green Machine said: “Our products are third party tested in FDA approved laboratories.

“All of our lab tests are 100% accurate and available in store or online. When we say it’s 250mg we can prove it. Our purity is the highest grade Californian CBD extracts available on the market.”

The Green Machine is part of a flourishing market, with the likes of Boots and Holland & Barrett expanding into CBD products.

The Green Machine pledges a commitment to high standards, working with trusted partners and only stocking products that are free from pesticides and other chemicals.

In California cannabis has been legalised for medical and recreational use. The US state has been at the forefront of efforts to reform cannabis laws since 1972. In November 2016, California voters approved the Adult Use of Marijuana Act (Proposition 64) to legalize the recreational use of cannabis.
